I have been an artist, potter and teacher all my life.
I started selling paintings at 11 years old and won national competitions as a teenager. I competed my A level art at night school whilst doing my GCSEs and went on to do foundation diploma art at Manchester Polytechnic. I gained BA hons in 3D Design at Manchester Metropolitan University. I went on to do PGCE in secondary art and after teaching for a few years I owned my own pottery activity centre and gallery for 10 years working collaboratively with schools, businesses and organisations producing instalations, awards and education programs.
Now I am concentrating on my painting work.
I work in many different media on many surfaces. My work has tended to focus on airbrushing on bristol board put I have also started using oil paints. I use oil pastels, pencils and acrylics for sketching down ideas and I am currently mixing media to get affects I want.
I also love to sculpt and cast using clay, plaster and resin and work with fabrics to make wearable items.
My work is inspired by nature, feelings, dreams and emotions. My work comes as a reaction to visiting locations. This can be woods, libraries, busy streets or an expansive sky. What in front of me invites me to ask the question "What if?"
I prefer to work from physical emotional experiences that have an affect on me.
My work also evolves around myths, legends and fairytales and how these can be related to modern day living.
